Dramatic Irony: Falling into his own trap.

pow2_thumb.jpgThe BBC sported an article about Roger and clay not mixing. That is obviously an extreme view, but the article did bring up a great point about an obsession forming. Ironically, this is a trap that Roger has set for the rest of his opponents. Take Andy Roddick for example; he become obsessed with catching Roger, and as a result the rest of Andy’s game suffered.

I think that we have seen early signs of what Roger’s forming obsession (if it is indeed an obsession): two early exits from tournaments that he hasn’t had a problem winning in the past. Yes, clay is Roger’s weakest surface, but he has still produced great results. So the statement, “Roger and clay don’t mix” isn’t accurate. However, Roger has to keep the big picture in mind, and he shouldn’t let Rafa and clay get into his head because I don’t think that’s what Roger wants the tennis world to remember him as…Roger Federer, a marvelous career that fell apart because of one man and one surface. Roger has so many bigger things going for him: potentially winning his fifth straight Wimbledon title, fourth straight US Open title, and catching Pete Sampras’s Grand Slam record. It would be a shame to see all that slip away.

Just as Roger is human so is Rafa. Anything can happen on the dirt in Roland Garros.
